This community-based initiative is a fresh look at developing and promoting art in rural South Africa and strives to make participation accessible to all artists.
The pop-up style festival is organised by the local art community and features many renowned South African artists.
The festival kicks off at 5.30 p.m. on Friday, 28 September with the official opening at the newly restored Cape Dutch home now featuring Makers Mark Gallery, where musical artist Emile Minnie will be entertaining guests with his unique style.
Clare Menck, the invited featured festival artist known for her nude swimmers and depictions of water, is hosting a cameo solo show at the brand new EpiArt Fine Art Gallery. She will also curate a group exhibition "Second take" at Saronsberg Wine Estate, for which artists represented in the Saronsberg collection were requested to do a new adjacent conversation piece.
Ian Simons is the featured local festival artist and he will be exhibiting at his home studio as well as participating in other group exhibitions around the valley. Porterville ceramicist Ronel Bakker will be doing an open pit firing workshop and local musicians Nicole Theron, Michael Canfield and Colorfields will be performing at various times during the day.
Other group shows include “Energy” curated by Paul Docherty at Makers Mark Gallery; "Then and Now" which features self-portraiture, past and present, curated by Jan Barend Wolmarans at the Christo Coetzee Museum; and The Barn on Schalkenbosch Wine Estate will host an extensive studio sale-style group show.
